Find out for free — with the app or by messaging us — whether your car is locked. If it is not, you skip the unlock and go straight to a package.
BMWs built after June 2020 have an engine control unit locked behind a different security protocol; nothing can be written until it is unlocked. We do the unlock at our workshop, every day. Finding out whether your car is locked costs nothing.
The car comes in and leaves unlocked the same day. Our workshop opens soon — booking via WhatsApp.

Send your VIN and model on WhatsApp; we agree a day and time. We unlock every day.
You bring the car; the ECU is opened and verified. Once done, the MOSTUNED app sees your car as unlocked.
After the unlock it is all remote: buy the package, write with the app, return to stock whenever you like. No need to come back.
From mid-2020 BMW added a further verification layer on the DME bootloader side. A locked ECU rejects write requests arriving over OBD at the signature check. How well the calibration was built makes no difference — the car simply refuses it.
The procedure that opens it is known in the trade as an unlock, and it needs physical access to the ECU; it cannot be done remotely, so the car has to come to the workshop. We do this ourselves — every day.
After the unlock the calibration side is fully remote: we prepare the calibration, sign it against your VIN, and you write it with the app.
The moment the app connects it reads the unlock status — writing nothing — and shows it on the Diagnostics screen. Nothing on the car changes; the check is free.
Already unlocked elsewhere? No problem: whichever method was used, we work with it and no second unlock is needed. If it is locked, you book a slot at the workshop; after the unlock the calibration side carries on remotely.
A BMW unlock opens the lock that stops software being written to the engine controller (DME) on BMWs built after June 2020. Without it no remap or calibration can be written. It is done once and is permanent; we do it at the MOSTUNED workshop every day.
A DME lock is the signature check BMW added to the engine control unit: every write request over OBD is verified and a calibration without BMW’s signature is rejected. “Locked ECU” and “DME lock” describe the same thing; the fix is an unlock.
Unlock Check in the MOSTUNED app is free: connect to the car and the app tells you the ECU lock status. If it is locked, book on WhatsApp.
Usually not — the lock arrived with post-June-2020 production. Running the app's check is still the only way to be certain.
FEMTO is the name of one unlock method; we work with all of them. Details: what a FEMTO unlock is.
Yes. The unlock method does not matter; the app verifies it on connection and no second unlock is needed.
Yes. We unlock at our workshop every day. The car has to come in; book on WhatsApp.
No. The lock needs physical access to the ECU; it cannot be opened over OBD. Everything after the unlock is remote — you never need to come back.
Usually same-day. Message us on WhatsApp with your VIN for the price and the next available day.
Done properly, no. We do and verify the work ourselves, and the app reads the result independently.
On the calibration side yes — we back up the original file and you can return to stock any time. The unlock itself stays on the ECU.
